Quirk
Kumi's quirk, Optics, allows her vision to adapt automatically or by her own will to it's surroundings or to perform a task of her choosing. She can do something as simple as making herself more short sighted or long sighted or they can adjust themselves to give her night vision in low light. If she concentrates she is able to adjust her vision so that it's heat sensing and can even change their sensitivity to types and colours of light.
Overusing her quirk can give her eye strain as well as migraines from the sudden changes.

Appearance
Kumi is a short, slim woman with black hair which she usually wears in a plait and violet eyes. For work she always dresses smartly in the designated police uniform, though tends to prefer skirts to trousers unless she is patrolling on a motorbike.
Outside of work she tends to prioritise comfort over style, usually wearing either baggy or stretchy clothes. And so most of her wardrobe consists of very slobbish or very formal wear with little inbetween.

Personality
Kumi could best be described as an iron fist in a velvet glove. She's strict but fair both with the public and her division, she holds herself to a high standard both in terms of her work ethic and morals, working diligently in her role and is steadfast in her stance against bribery, as well as unjust or immoral practices and expects the same from her colleagues.
While she's working she makes an effort to be polite and cordial to everyone, even criminals and those that she dislikes as she believes that it would be unprofessional and would reflect poorly on her department and the force as a whole to act discourteously due to personal reasons. However outside of work, when surrounded by her fellow officers or in the privacy of the break room she tends to speak her mind more and is often quite sarcastic and cynical.
Kumi has a tendency to fuss over her friends and co-workers to the point of coming off as bossy and annoying but the majority of people who know her well are aware that it is simply how Kumi expresses kindness and concern.

Background
Kumi had a fairly standard upbringing with her parents Kaito and Terumi and her younger sister Miwa.
In her early life Kumi adjusted well to her role of big sister and took an active and somewhat doting role in her sister's life. Despite the two growing up to be polar opposites, with Kumi being more ambitious and tomboyish and Miwa being feminine and a homemaker, they still remain close to this day, ending up being the head bridesmaid at Miwa's wedding and a doting Aunt to her young niece and nephew.
Another family member who had played a key role in her life was her maternal Grandfather, Kujo Ono, a retired traffic cop himself as well as a car and motorbike enthusiast. And it was under his influence that Kumi developed her own love of all things mechanical.
After graduating high school, Kumi was still unsure upon what she wanted to do. Drawn to both the idea of law enforcement and engineering, she attended University in Tokyo and obtained her degrees; majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Law. However after having finished her degree her beloved grandfather died and in the months following his death she finally made the decision to follow in his footsteps and become a traffic cop at the age of 20.
After her one year of training for the force and the two years of mandatory foot patrol, Kumi officially trained for and joined the ranks of the traffic division.
The combination of her passion and knowledge of cars and vehicles, her formidable work ethic, analytical skills and natural intelligence enabled her to rise quickly through the ranks and was able to rise to the rank of inspector at the age of 27, the youngest in the prefecture.
She is very proud of her job and takes her role as both a worker and a leader seriously. She has also decided to settle rather than chase another promotion as any higher roles would be more bureaucratic than practical police work.
While she is firmly based in the Traffic Unit, she will sometimes be put onto cases led by other departments where her knowledge, skill set or quirk could be advantageous.
Unlike her sister, Kumi is unmarried, childless and lives in a cosy apartment with her two cats Humphrey and Larry, whom she adopted after their previous owner, the old lady from across the hall, had to move into a care home and could no longer keep the two cats. She spoils the two and regularly talks about them, leading her colleagues to joke that she's evolving into a crazy cat woman.
